What Is the NYSE Composite Index?
With a coverage of over 2000 stocks, the NYSE Composite is a stock market index of all common stock listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It uses a free-float market cap weighting. 1600 of the 2000 stocks covered are from United States corporations and over 360 are foreign listings. Nonetheless, foreign companies are very prevalent among the largest companies in the index (more than half of the top 100 are foreign companies).
